TENEX – the Partner of 2017 Moscow Nonproliferation Conference

TENEX has become one of the partners of the international conference for the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, which was held in Moscow on October 19-21, 2017. The conference organized every other year by the Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) - autonomous non-profit organization.


Over 270 representatives – state and public officials, diplomats, researchers and political experts from 41 countries, and international organizations as well as the United Nations Organization (UN), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) took part in the forum.


Minister of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov, UN Under-Secretary General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu, Executive Secretary of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission Lassina Zerbo, Under-Secretary General of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov, Deputy Director-General – Director of Unit for International cooperation of “Rosatom” State Corporation Nikolay Spassky, chair of the Nuclear Suppliers Group Benno Laggner were the honorable guests that made their reports at the conference.


The conference participants discussed such priority international issues as the role of the Nuclear Weapons Nonproliferation Treaty, the CTBT’s future, the role of nuclear weapons in the 21st century, combating WMD terrorism, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action regarding the Iranian nuclear program, the situation on the Korean Peninsula and others.


During the session, focused on the problems, that face countries, decided to develop nuclear energy, TENEX presented a report about the strategy of spent nuclear fuel management in the framework of integrated proposal of “Rosatom” State Corporation.
