On October 17, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov made a speech at the opening of the Russian-Iranian international seminar “Twenty-Five Years of Cooperation between Russia and Iran in the Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy: New Prospects in line with Annex III to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.”

The event was organised by the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry. The aim of the seminar is to sum up the intermediate results of 25-years of cooperation between Russia and Iran on the peaceful atom and outline new directions for its further expansion and deepening within the framework of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Annex III to the JCPOA contains a long list of avenues of potential cooperation with Iran in this sphere.

Representatives of the JCPOA member states, the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were invited to participate in the seminar.

In his speech, Mr Ryabkov reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to the JCPOA and its intention to honour its obligations under this agreement.  He stressed the importance of the full-fledged realisation of the JCPOA’s potential, including with regard to the restoration of normal conditions for trade and economic cooperation with Iran as well as beginning joint work on the projects cited in Annex III.
